JOB OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as the primary public health contact for municipal health services in the Town of Holliston. The RN will deliver public health nursing services, including communicable disease investigations, adult and maternal health home visits, influenza clinic support, and state-mandated reporting.
Public Health Registered Nurse:
- Client/Location: Town of Holliston Board of Health (Holliston, MA).
- Employment Type: Contract / On-Call (Independent Contractor).
- Schedule: Call-in requests during regular business hours (7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct epidemiological investigations for all state-required reportable communicable diseases.
- Complete surveillance forms, perform follow-up visits, and provide instruction or referrals for affected individuals.
- Utilize the Massachusetts Department of Public Health MAVEN system to initiate and follow up on referrals from the town or state promptly.
- Immediately notify the Board of Health if a confirmed case involves a high-risk worker (e.g., food handler, childcare worker, or healthcare employee) and manage associated documentation.
- Conduct home visits to assess patient needs, provide guidance, and connect residents to appropriate care and social resources.
- Perform home visits for newly arrived immigrant families to discuss local health care resources and service access.
- Perform mother-infant assessment visits and outreach to high-risk parents and children in collaboration with physicians and healthcare providers.
- Assist in organizing staffing, support, and supplies for town-sponsored flu clinics.
- Deliver community training sessions as requested, including CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and submit monthly reports of services rendered (including copies of all surveillance reports) by the 15th of each following month.
- Maintain compliance with state-required public health reporting standards.
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Prior experience using the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiologic Network (MAVEN) system.
- Strong background in public health nursing, epidemiology, community outreach, or home care.
- Flexible daytime availability to respond to call-in service requests between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
